The number of snow geese wintering on Texas coastal prairies has declined by as much as two-thirds from peak populations in the late 1990s as changes in land use have shrunk the bird’s habitat. But the number of waterfowlers who chase geese in Texas during the regular season hasn’t suffered the same decline, except during the “conservation season.”
